MBB: UNI to Play in ESPN Tip-Off Marathon

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- The University of Northern Iowa men’s basketball team will travel to Nacogdoches, Texas, to take on the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks on ESPN2 on Nov. 18 as a part of ESPN’s 24-hour College Hoops Tip-Off Marathon. The game will tip at 8 a.m. (CT).

Stephen F. Austin posted a 32-3 mark last season and reached the third round of the NCAA Tournament after defeating VCU in the second round in overtime, 77-75. The Lumberjacks entered last year’s NCAA Tournament riding a 28-game win streak. SFA has won 33 straight home games entering the 2014-15 season – a mark which is tied with Duke for the nation’s longest home-court winning streaks.

UNI and Stephen F. Austin will be meeting for only the third time with the Panthers holding a 2-0 lead in the all-time series. UNI’s two victories in the series came on Jan. 7, 1989, at Stephen F. Austin (80-71) and on Jan. 6, 1990, in the UNI-Dome (120-96).

This will mark the Panthers’s second appearance in the Tip-Off Marathon as UNI traveled to Saint Mary’s and battled the Gaels at the start of the 2011-12 season.

UNI completed its 2013-14 season with an overall mark of 16-15. UNI posted a 10-8 record in the Missouri Valley Conference - securing its 11th consecutive upper-half finish in the Missouri Valley Conference. UNI placed third in the MVC standings.
