GOLF: JDC To Honor Vets

SILVIS, Ill. -- Scheduled to be played July 7-13 at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, the PGA TOUR’s John Deere Classic will partner with Lowe’s and AUSA to help show members of our U.S. Armed Forces and their families how much their service and sacrifice are appreciated by hosting a variety of military outreach activities during tournament week in partnership with Birdies for the Brave.

Highlighting the festivities, complimentary tournament admission will be provided for all active duty and Reserve military members and military retirees with a valid Common Access Card (CAC) shown at the gate.  Each military member may also bring along one guest each per day at no cost.

Other military outreach activities that will be taking place during the John Deere Classic include a Callaway Warrior Club Fitting on the practice facility on Tuesday, July 8, when two local combat-injured warriors will each be fitted with their own custom set of Callaway Golf clubs to aid in the rehabilitation process.  On Wednesday, July 9, uniformed military personnel from local bases will have the opportunity to caddie for PGA TOUR players on the 15th hole during the Pro-Am as part of the Birdies for the Brave Military Caddie Program.

Throughout the day, the pin flag on that hole will be replaced by an American flag, which will be tended by uniformed personnel from all five branches of the military.  On Sunday, July 13, all military guests will be treated to complimentary food and beverages and premium viewing in the air conditioned skybox located behind the 15th green.

“On behalf of the John Deere Classic, it’s an honor to show our gratitude to those who put their lives on the line every day to ensure all Americans enjoy a level of freedom and quality of life unmatched around the world,” said John Deere Classic Tournament Director Clair Peterson.  “We are extremely thankful to Lowe’s and AUSA for their significant support in showing these American heroes how much their service and sacrifices are appreciated.”

Birdies for the Brave (www.birdiesforthebrave.org) is a national military outreach initiative proudly supported by the PGA TOUR.  Since 2006, Birdies for the Brave has joined with players, sponsors, donors and fans to raise more than $11 million for nine military homefront groups that are supported by TOUR players, which provide critical programs and services to meet the specialized needs of wounded service members and military families.  The program also includes military appreciation activities and special events for military families during TOUR events.
