USHL: Saints Release 2014/15 Schedule

DUBUQUE, Iowa -- Opening Night at the Mystique Community Ice Center for the Dubuque Fighting Saints fifth season is less than three months away. The United States Hockey League announced the regular season schedule for the 2014-2015 season today, and the Fighting Saints will open the home portion of the campaign on Saturday, October 4 against the Omaha Lancers at 7:05 p.m.

The USHL’s regular season schedule will be 60 games in length this season, meaning the Fighting Saints will host 30 regular season games at the Mystique Community Ice Center. The team’s home schedule features 29 games that fall on a weekend, with 13 Friday night games, 13 Saturday night games and three Sunday afternoon contests.

The Prairie Farms Cowbell Cup series returns for a fourth season, and the Fighting Saints will look to reclaim the trophy that they have won in two of the last three seasons. Dubuque opens the 2014-2015 campaign with a pair of games on the road against its Cowbell Cup rivals. The Fighting Saints season opener is Friday, September 27 in Cedar Rapids, and is a rematch of the 2014 Eastern Conference Semifinal playoff series. The following Friday, October 3, the Fighting Saints visit Waterloo. Dubuque faces Cedar Rapids and Waterloo six times each during the 2014-2015 season. Cedar Rapids visits Dubuque on January 2, February 7 and March 28. Waterloo and Dubuque meet in The Key City on November 14, January 3 and February 28.

The Fighting Saints will also look to create rivalries with the two newest franchises to the USHL, the Bloomington Thunder, and the nearby Madison Capitols, who will play in the Eastern Conference.

Much like the Fighting Saints did in 2010, the Madison franchise is returning to the USHL under the same name they used in their first stint in the USHL from 1984-1995. Located just 90 miles away, Madison’s proximity to Dubuque could lead to a regional battle similar to what the Fighting Saints have established with Cedar Rapids and Waterloo. The Capitols first visit Dubuque on Saturday, October 25 for a 7:05 p.m. puck drop. Madison comes to Dubuque twice more during the 2014-2015 regular season, visiting the Mystique Community Ice Center on Friday, December 5 and Friday, March 27.

The schedule features four contests against Bloomington, with the Fighting Saints hosting the Thunder twice in Dubuque, on Saturday, December 27 and Friday, February 27.

The Fighting Saints home schedule continues what has become an annual tradition. Dubuque will host a Thanksgiving Eve game on Wednesday, November 26, as the Muskegon Lumberjacks visit the Fighting Saints for a 7:35 p.m. contest. Later that week, the Fighting Saints will host Team USA U-17 on Saturday, November 29, for a 6:05 p.m. holiday weekend puck drop. Both contests are great opportunities to join family and friends at a Fighting Saints game.

The Fighting Saints will be busy during the holiday season. Dubuque plays a pair of games shortly following Christmas, hosting Bloomington on Saturday, December 27 at 7:05 p.m. and then battling Chicago on Sunday, December 28 at 3:05 p.m. After spending New Year’s Eve on the road, Dubuque starts 2015 with a weekend matchup that sees them face Prairie Farms Cowbell Cup rivals in a pair of games at the Mystique Community Ice Center. On Friday, January 2 Dubuque hosts Cedar Rapids at 7:35 p.m. and then on Saturday, January 3, the Waterloo Black Hawks visit the Mystique Community Ice Center at 7:05 p.m. to cap off a week of marquee matchups.

During the regular season, Dubuque’s longest homestand is four games, and the club will not be away from home for more than four games during the 2014-2015 campaign. The Fighting Saints end the season with four of the final five games on the road. Dubuque’s regular season ends on Saturday, April 11 in Waterloo.

To go along with the regular season schedule, a full preseason schedule will be released in the coming days.
