WBB: UNI Announces 2014-15 Non-Conference Schedule
CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- The University of Northern Iowa women’s basketball non-conference schedule has been announced for the 2014-15 season. The Panthers will play six home games during the non-conference schedule in the McLeod Center.
The UNI Panthers will start their season with an exhibition against Sioux Falls in the McLeod Center on Nov. 8. Seven of the Panthers’ possible 13 opponents saw action in post-season play last year.
The regular season opener is set for Nov. 14 against the University of Tulsa Golden Hurricanes on the road. The Panthers have faced Tulsa twice, picking up wins in 1998 and 1999.
UNI will stay on the road for two more games, playing Akron for the first time in program history Nov. 18 and heading to Iowa City, Iowa on Nov. 25 for an in-state matchup against the Iowa Hawkeyes. Both Akron and Iowa played in the NCAA Tournament last season.
The Panthers will then head to the east coast for the Hofstra Thanksgiving Tournament Nov. 28-29 in Long Island, N.Y. UNI will face-off against host school Hofstra in the first game of the tournament on Nov. 28, meeting the Pride for the first time.
On day two of the tournament (Nov. 29), depending on a win or loss against Hofstra, UNI would match-up against either Tulane or Western Kentucky. Both teams would also be new opponents for the Panthers with both teams appearing in postseason play during the 2013-14 season.
Dec. 4 will conclude UNI’s road non-conference schedule as they head to Vermillion, S.D. to take on the South Dakota Coyotes. The Coyotes also appeared in the NCAA Tournament last season after winning the Summit League Tournament Championship.
The Panthers’ home opener will take place Dec. 8 against former Missouri Valley Conference foes Creighton, kicking off five straight home games. The Blue Jays will return to the McLeod Center after finishing last season 12-6 in the Big East Conference.
On Dec. 11 and Dec. 13, the Panthers will host North Dakota State and Dartmouth for a pair of games. UNI currently leads the all-time series against the Bison 4-1 while this will be the first ever meeting between the Panthers and the Dartmouth Big Green.
For their final two home games of the 2014 calendar year, UNI will take on Northern Illinois Dec. 21 and South Dakota State on Dec. 29 to close out the non-conference schedule.
