MWL: Kernels Roster Moves May 3, 2014

Cedar Rapids, IA -- The Cedar Rapids Kernels and Minnesota Twins announce that OF J.D. Williams has been activated from the DL at Fort Myers and assigned to the Kernels and that INF Tanner Vavra has been placed on the 7-day disabled list, retroactive to May 2nd. Brad Steil, Director of Minor League Operations for the Twins, announced the move.
The Twins selected Williams in the 10th round of the 2010 First Year Player Draft out of Brooks Debartolo Collegiate (FL) High School. He played 80 games for the Kernels in 2013 before being promoted to Fort Myers, batting .281 with eight HR and 42 RBI. Williams had been on the DL at Fort Myers since the 2014 season began.
Vavra goes on the DL with a right ankle sprain suffered in game one of Thursday DH against Kane County. In 18 games for the Kernels hes batting .338 with seven doubles and eight RBI.
Williams will be active and available for tonights 6:35 pm game against Peoria. With todays transaction, the Kernels roster is at the MWL maximum of 25 active players, with five players currently on the DL and one player on the Restricted List.
The Kernels continue a seven game home stand tonight against the Peoria Chiefs at 6:35 pm. The Kernels will wear special pink jerseys that will be sold during the game via a silent auction with the proceeds to benefit Linn County Relay for Life and there will be FIREWORKS after the game. The current home stand continues through Sunday, May 4th.
