SOFT: UNI Falls to MO State in Series Finale

CEDAR Falls, Iowa -- The University of Northern Iowa softball team came up short this afternoon against the Missouri State Bears, 6-5, at Robinson-Dresser Field. UNI (24-15 overall, 11-8 MVC) made a late push against the Bears (24-20 overall, 7-11 MVC) but were unable to complete the comeback.

Alyssa Buchanan made her presence felt early in the game connecting for her third homer on the season putting UNI on top, 2-1. The bats were slow to come together midway through the game but were able to plate three runs in the final three innings.

Rikki Alcaraz reached base on a single in the 5th. With two outs Kristin Lock kept the bats alive sending a single to left field. A defensive error by Missouri State allowed Alcaraz to score tying the game at 3-3.

Down three runs in the 6th inning, Samantha Olson reached safely on a fielders choice. Olson picked up her team-leading 15th stolen base advancing to second base. Julia Hunter followed with an RBI-single to left field narrowing the Panther deficit, 6-4.

Rikki Alcaraz completed the scoring for UNI in the 7th inning with a solo-homer to left field closing the gap, 6-5.

Jamie Fisher started the game and was charged with the loss. Fisher (14-11) tossed seven innings as she allowed three earned runs on eight hits.

The Panthers will take the field again this Wednesday facing off with the Drake University Bulldogs at 6:00 p.m. in Des. Moines.
