Report Released in Chopper Crash

VENTURA, IA (CBS2/FOX28) - Federal investigators say a medical helicopter that crashed in northern Iowa, was not certified for flying in icy conditions.

The Mercy Air Med Helicopter crashed into a farm field north of Ventura on January 2nd, 2013.

The National Transportation Safety Board has not yet officially said what likely caused the crash, but their full factual report out this week focused heavily on the weather.

Pilot Gene Grell, paramedic Russell Piehl, and nurse Shelly Lair-Langenbau were killed in the crash.

The helicopter was on a routine flight from Mason City to Emmetsburg to pick up a patient.
