Road Trippin': Burlington's The Drake

BURLINGTON, IA - (CBS2/FOX28)   You can travel to a lot of towns where a river runs through it and never find a single cafe, bar or restaurant that allows you to sit along the shores and just watch the world roll by.  In a town that's known for its beautiful cable bridge, big barges and pleasure boats gliding up and down the mighty Mississippi, you need look no further than The Drake.  River enthusiast and renaissance man Sam Jennison always had a dream to turn the old 1905 hardware wholesale building into a restaurant and while it took a few years, he did just that. Today one of his sons, Jimbo , is in charge of making it a must stop location in Burlington.  With a menu that includes everything from Elk steaks and duck dishes to  half-pound Angus burgers and amazing barbeque brisket, The Drake has a long list of fans.  But it may well be the natural wonder that flows just a half block from the front door that is the biggest draw.  Jimbo says there is nothing like sitting out on the restaurant patio on a summer evening with a great dinner and your favorite drink and just watching the river while you relax and listen to the band. Burlington may have served as the state's first capitol, before the golden dome moved on to Iowa City, but the Jennisons are focused on making The Drake, Burlington's capitol of great times and fun food. After covering all those miles on our ROAD TRIPPIN' adventures, it's time to stop for the view and the very best of food at The Drake!
