Deere Laying Off Hundreds in Waterloo

WATERLOO, IA (CBS2/FOX28) -- John Deere announced today it plans to layoff hundreds from their Waterloo operations.  The news comes after the company announced hundreds of other layoffs at their other sites across the Midwest.
"Layoffs are never easy because we understand the significant impact this action has on our employees, their families, and the community" said Dave DeVault, factory manager. "We very carefully assess our workforce requirements to ensure we make the best possible decision to respond to various market conditions."
Earlier this month, Deere announced plans to reduce production for the rest of the year.  Leaders emphasized the company must match the size of its manufacturing workforce with market demand to remain globally competitive.
The company pointed out it had added hundreds of jobs in recent years as demand for their products increased.
