Vernon Critical of Branstad Disaster Plan

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (CBS2/FOX28) -- Democratic Nominee for Lieutenant Governor, Cedar Rapids Counciwoman Monica Vernon spoke out against Governor Terry Branstad's disaster planning.

Vernon says that she's disappointed that money wents towards a fertilizer plant in the state, rather than helping Corridor residents.

"I think the dollars seem to not matter when we're helping someone at the top of a very large company like that," Vernon said. "Yet, when real people, our Iowans, have challenges, it's a big problem."

The Branstad-Reynolds campaign responded to Vernon saying in part, his flood mitigation board has already provided help to Cedar Rapids totaling $264 million in promised aide.

He also called the accusation by the Hatch-Vernon Campaign "a bogus attack."
