Road Trippin' Madison, WI: UW Union

MADISON, WI (CBS2/FOX28) -- When summer seems to disappear faster than a brat at Camp Randall Stadium and your definition of a ‘hot’ day is 75 degrees, you tend to celebrate as much time as possible outdoors in the sunshine. That’s especially true when you’re a student or a visitor to the University of Wisconsin in Madison.

The Wisconsin Union is a focal point of campus activity and considered one of the best student centers in the entire country. The classic architecture gives the buildings a grand appearance and an extensive renovation project inside provides everything from a bank, to movie and performance theaters, to a beer hall type café that brings people together in Der Rathskeller.

But when alums talk about what they miss and when students talk about what they love, they’re referring to one place, The Memorial Union Terrace. The sprawling patio, with brightly colored tables and chairs sits right on the banks of Lake Mendota. Here anyone can rent canoes, paddle boards and kayaks or just sit by the water and enjoy lunch as sailboats glide by and seagulls float on the breeze.

Live music after dark and a World Music Festival just add to an ambience that’s unbeatable. Before winter sets in, come with us as we take you ROAD TRIPPIN’ to Madison and The Union!
