$770 To See College Football

IOWA CITY, IA – (CBS2/FOX28)  Football fans can hardly contain their excitement waiting for the kickoff on the 2014 college season.  At the same time, ticket prices to see some of their favorite teams live are sacking their enthusiasm a little.

While tickets to top Hawkeye, Cyclone and Panther games can run nearly $70, other college teams charge three times that much. If you want to sit in the bleachers for the biggest contest of the season, internet sites are asking $770 for the sold out UCLA vs Texas game.

In the home of the Hawkeyes, Iowa City, Kirk says he would pay $20 or $25, but $700 means it’s time to punt, “ Hey, that’s more than what I pay for apartment rent every month, no, I wouldn’t do it. “

On our Facebook page Dan writes, “For Hawks, max I would pay $75 for a good game, but only if they were in a national title hunt would I pay up to the $200 range.” Brian posts, “ How many credit hours is $700. “ And Donna writes, “ For $70 I can have a pizza delivered, get some honey roasted peanuts and soda, stay home and watch the game on TV and still have money left over after figuring in tipping the pizza deliverer and gas to go get soda and nuts.“

Back at the Ped Mall in Iowa City, football fans say their favorite Saturday afternoon ticket is one they get for free from a friend.  Mark says normally he might pay $40 or $45, but sometimes you have to splurge, “ I would probably do it .. yes .. for the right team.”

We’re always interested in hearing your thought. You can tell us how much is too much for a college football game on our Facebook page.  You’ll find the link at the bottom of this page.
