Davenport Police Sued for Brutality

DAVENPORT, IA (AP) - A woman who claims she was beaten by a Davenport police officer is suing the city.

35-year-old Brandie Redell filed the lawsuit Friday in U.S. District Court. The city is named in the suit along with two police officers.

Redell says she was punched by an officer during a visit to a clothing store in February 2013. She was stopped on suspicion of shoplifting.

The lawsuit says the officer pushed Redell into a corner and slammed her face into the floor. The officer then allegedly punched her in the head several times.

Police have said Redell was aggressive during the incident. She denies it.

The case was referred to Scott County Attorney Mike Walton, who did not file charges against the officer.
