Road Trippin' Olbrich Botanical Gardens

MADISON, WI – (CBS2/FOX28)  From its stunning reflecting pools and arching bridges to the vibrant explosions of color, the 16 acres of Olbrich Botanical Gardens fills the senses with both excitement for what might be around the next bend and calm as you find that serene spot to sit and watch the world go by.  The park near the shores of Madison’s Lake Menona grew from an early vision to preserve the area for everyone to enjoy.  Today the site entertains serious gardeners on a mission to see the latest and greatest in horticulture, as well as families and groups just out for a casual stroll.  It’s especially easy to spend as much or as little time as you want since admission is free.  While bright red blossoms draw attention in the rose garden and Purple Cone Flowers grace the trails, one of the most notable focal points doesn’t bloom, it glitters... like gold!  The Thai Pavilion is a gift from the Thai government and Thai Alumni Association to the University of Madison. Craftsmen brought it to the states and carefully assembled it without using any nails.  They meticulously finished it in gold leaf, by hand, leaving visitors to stop in their tracks and marvel at this sparkling jewel in the jungle. Directors at Olbrich Botanical Gardens say don’t make the mistake of thinking that summer is over and the beauty of the blooms has faded, because fall is one of the most amazing times of year as Mums and Asters compliment the autumn colors of the north woods. Make sure to pack your camera as we go ROAD TRIPPIN’ to Madison!
