Murphy Leads, Blum Receives Endorsement

DUBUQUE, IA (CBS2/FOX28) -- A new poll released Wednesday shows that Democratic candidate for Iowa's 1st Congressional District, State Rep. Pat Murphy, leads Republican Dubuque businessman Rod Blum.

The poll, commissioned by Murphy's campaign, and conducted by Myers Research & Strategic Services, shows Murphy with a 51 to 40 percent lead over Blum.

The poll, conducted between July 31 and August 4, also found near equal levels of name recognition between the two candidates, with Murphy leading slightly 61 to 59 percent.

At the same time, the Iowa Farm Bureau Political Action Committee, has endorsed Rod Blum, designating him as a "Friend of Agriculture".

A nine-member bipartisan committee made the designation based on which candidate will support issues that directly impact family farms, businesses and rural communities.

More than 153,000 families in Iowa are Farm Bureau members.
