Long Running VEISHEA Over at ISU
AMES, IA (CBS2/FOX28) -- A 92-year tradition at Iowa State University has come to an end. University President Steven Leath announced his decision Thursday to end the tradition after a series of riots in recent years.
Leath said the celebration had degraded into nothing more than a week-long alcohol party.
He did say some VEISHEA activities would return at some point, but did not specify what activities or when. President Leath made the decision after a task force investigating the matter determined that the school could not continue VEISHEA without making changes, warning that continued violence would occur.
One student was seriously injured during this year's riots. Leath says that student has since recovered.
