Field of Dreams Butter Sculpture Revealed
DES MOINES, IA (CBS2/FOX28) Today (Thursday) is the day fried food lovers across the Hawkeye state have been waiting for; day one of the Iowa State Fair.
But the fair offers more than just fried snickers and butter. The 11-day event includes live music, livestock shows, rides and some big competition.
Thousands of competitors will be going head to head in more than 7-thousand blue ribbon battles; from the best corn stalk to the top decorative quilt.
And we cant mention the fair without talking about the Butter Cow. Last year, vandals hit the cow with red paint, but don't worry; the cow will be back this year and is designed by sculptor Sarah Pratt.
And if you're looking for more caloric creations, the cow's Companion Sculpture this year honors one of Iowas iconic locations the Field of Dreams.
Pratt is also responsible for this masterpiece; figuring, if she built it, they would come.
It features corn stalks, a ball player and even immortalizes the famous catch phrase.
The movie was filmed in Dyersville and was written by a graduate from the University of Iowa.
Both the cow and the field of dreams are preserved in a 40-degree cooler at the John Deere Agriculture Building.
More than a million people from across the world visit the fair each year.
It's open Thursday Aug. 7th through Saturday Aug. 17th at the Iowa State Fairgrounds in Des Moines.
