Family Hangs Ribbons to Honor Soldier

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (CBS2/FOX28) - A Cedar Rapids man got a special homecoming this week, after serving four years overseas.

Chris Mains graduated from Jefferson High School, and after starting college, decided to join the air force.

Mains just finished a tour of duty in Qatar, and his mom decided to welcome him home by tying yellow ribbons throughout their neighborhood.

Beverly Mains says Chris' brother and his girlfriend helped put up the ribbons, to show Chris how proud they are of him.

"We've had so many people in the neighborhood come up and congratulate him and welcome him home, and, uh, we really missed him, so, I think he knows it every time we go somewhere," said Mains.

Chris is only home for about a week, then he has to go back and finish up his service, which will take another three weeks. After that, he plans on going back to college.
