Toxin Leaves Thousands Without Water

TOLEDO, OH (CBS2/FOX28) - Hundreds of thousands of people in Ohio are being told they can't drink their water because it's been contaminated.
Late Friday, city leaders realized that the water has blooms of algae from Lake Erie that are creating a toxin.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration says the toxin can cause nausea and liver failure.
Right now, about 400,000 people are being told to go to schools where the National Guard is handing out purified water.
The water restrictions are also causing a problem for local hospitals that many didnt see coming; theyre having trouble sanitizing instruments meant for surgery.
Monday night, water tests showed the toxin at a safe level for most areas but the mayor still refused to lift water restrictions.
He says he doesnt want to take any chances with his community's safety.
