Hogan Pleads Not Guilty to Gaffney Murder

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (CBS2/FOX28) -- A Waterloo man accused of murder in Linn County says he's not guilty.
36-year-old Shaun Hogan entered the written plea Tuesday.  He faces a 1st Degree Murder charge for the beating death of 29-year-old Crystal Gaffney.  Her body was found on a gravel road near Walker on July 9th.
Hours after the discovery, an Amber Alert was issued for Gaffney's two children.  They were believed to be with Shaun Hogan.  Both children were recovered safe a short time after the alert was issued.
On July 10th, authorities took Hogan into custody and charged him with the murder of Gaffney.
Court papers show Hogan and Gaffney had a tumultuous relationship.  If convicted on the charge of murder, Hogan would face a mandatory sentence of life in prison with no chance of parole.
