Potential Bank Robbery Suspect In Custody

IOWA CITY, IA (CBS2/FOX28) -- Police have a potential suspect in custody in connection with a bank robbery Monday afternoon.

At about 12:39 p.m., officers responded to Hills Bank at 2621 Muscatine Avenue. Witnesses say a heavy-set man wearing a black, hooded sweatshirt, and a mask robbed the bank and left on foot.

Officers began interviewing witnesses in the area, and one of the witnesses reported seeing the man running toward Hy-Vee on First Avenue. Investigators used photos and surveillance video to identify a potential suspect and take him into custody.

Investigators from the Iowa City Police Department, Johnson County Sheriff's Department, and FBI are still following leads in the case.
