Shots Fired in Iowa City Pedestrian Mall

IOWA CITY, IA (CBS2/FOX28) -- The Iowa City Police Department is investigating multiple gunshots that were fired in the Iowa City Pedestrian Mall early Sunday morning.

It happened just after 1:30 AM.  Officers on foot patrol heard gunshots.  Witnesses reported the shooters fleeing south from the area.  A male juvenile was taken into custody about two blocks south of where the gunshots were initially heard.  A loaded pistol was found on the person, and they admitted to firing multiple shots into the air while in the Pedestrian Mall.

No one was injured and police were unable to locate a second person.

The juvenile suspect now faces multiple charges including Going Armed with Intent, a Class D felony and Intimidation with a Dangerous Weapon, a Class C Felony.

Additionally, Iowa City Area Crime Stoppers is offering up to a $1,000 cash reward for information leading to the arrest of anyone else involved.  Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers at 358-8477.
