A Game and a Cause

CORALVILLE, IA (CBS 2/FOX 28) How do you make a sunny afternoon on the softball diamond better? By helping children in need at the same time.

That was the aim of the JTC Softball Tournament at Creekside Park in Coralville this weekend.

The annual tournament raises money for Corridor childrens charities with this years benefactor being the NICU at the University of Iowa Childrens Hospital.

Friends and softball players organized the tournament that was first held in 2012 after one of their friends and fellow softball players lost a child during pregnancy.

Organizers say playing the game they love and helping children at the same time is one of the things they live for.

I love that everybody thats playing in this tournament wants to help us give back to the community; give back to childrens charities, JP Cartier said. We just love doing it. Everybody that comes out and plays loves doing it.

Organizers say they hoped to raise as much money as possible and that the previous two tournaments brought in nearly $2,000 each.

This year, 23 teams competed, the most in JTC Tournament history.
