Popular State Park Re-Opens

MADRID, Iowa (KCCI-TV) It's been a month and a half, but now the main artery through Ledges State Park is open.
"There was a lot of silt and debris left on the road after the water receded," said Andy Bartlett, Ledges State Park manager.
As a result, Canyon Road had to be closed.
"It kind of feels like a win for us this year being able to open things up so soon after the waters receded," said Bartlett.
Bartlett says crews were at it all day Tuesday making final touches to the area, moving piles of debris off site and then sweeping the dirt away.
"It's just nice for people of all abilities to have access with their vehicles down in the canyon to be able to experience that," said Bartlett.
KCCI found a group of families playing by a creek that flows through Ledges. They had to take a hike to get in there.
"You had to carry all your stuff over and it was really heavy," said Leyla Moffitt, of Ankeny.
"We don't mind walking down here but it is kind of a trek. Having the road open is king of a nice thing. A little more convenient," said Leah Owensby, of Madrid.
But, still, there are some who might choose to take the trek, even though the road is now open.
"Having to walk in is a lot more adventurous," said Clayton Hagber, of Polk City.
