ICCSD Names New Schools
IOWA CITY, IA (CBS2/FOX28) - The Iowa City Community School District has announced the names of the new district schools.
They include: Archibald Alexander Elementary, Herbert Hoover Elementary, Christine Grant Elementary, and Iowa City Liberty High.
From the district:
During the July 8th Iowa City Community School District Board Meeting, board members approved the naming of four new schools to be opened over the next several years throughout the District.
New School Names:
Archibald Alexander Elementary (elementary school in the south) - Archibald Alexander was the first African-American civil engineer to graduate from the University of Iowa in 1912.
Herbert Hoover Elementary (elementary school in the east) - President of the United States from West Branch, Iowa. The current Iowa City Community Schools Hoover Elementary building will be retired by the District prior to the opening of the new Herbert Hoover Elementary in east Iowa City.
Christine Grant Elementary (elementary school in the north) - Former University of Iowa women's athletic director, women's Title IX activist and local leader.
Iowa City Liberty High (high school in the north) - Denotes positive attributes about our nation and our democratic beliefs. The name also provides an indicator of the area of the District where the school will be located, North Liberty, Iowa.
