Hurricane Arthur Hits Northeast

RALEIGH, NORTH CAROLINA (CBS2/FOX28) - States to the east are feeling the effects of extreme weather,
The first hurricane of the season made landfall on the North Carolina coast Thursday night packing heavy wind and rain and knocking out power.
It forced thousands of vacationers to scrap their July fourth holiday plans.
Police in Dare County, North Carolina told people to stay indoors as Hurricane Arthur came ashore.
Arthur made landfall as a category 2 storm, just before midnight and by Friday morning it was on its way north toward Maine.
Ahead of the storm, North Carolina Governor Pat McCrory put more than two dozen counties under states of emergency.
Police went door to door to take note of who stayed behind.
The impact was felt far beyond the Carolinas; cities in the Northeast have been putting festivities on hold.
