Burglary Suspect Taken To Hospital

WATERLOO, IA (CBS2/FOX28) -- A man was sent to the hospital Thursday after jumping from a second-story window during a burglary.

Black Hawk County Sheriff's deputies were called to a burglary alarm going off at the Black Hawk County Landfill just after 4:00 a.m. Thursday. Deputies saw a truck backed up against an old gate near the building where the alarm was going off. The plates on the truck showed it had been stolen in Linn County two weeks ago.

Deputies went into the maintenance building at the landfill and saw the suspect, 36-year-old John Hall, and noticed several items taken from inside the shop were piled up on the floor next to a door. When Hall noticed the deputies, he barricaded himself in an upstairs room. When deputies found him, Hall jumped through a window, falling about 10 to 15 feet onto the concrete floor.

An ambulance was called to take Hall to Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo, then later to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

Hall will likely face burglary charges and be taken to jail once he is able to leave the hospital. The Black Hawk County Sheriff's Office is still investigating the incident.
