Des Moines High Schools Stay in Conference

DES MOINES, IA (CBS2/FOX28) Five high schools in Des Moines will stay in the Central Iowa Metropolitan League.
Eight school districts had talked about leaving the largest big-school activities conference but on Friday many of those schools decided to back away from the plan.
The idea was sparked because schools wanted more authority to manage their sports teams and other school activities.
They had discussed creating their own conference. .
Last week, the Des Moines public schools announced that East, Hoover, North, Lincoln and Roosevelt high schools will remain in the conference through the 2016 school year.
Marshalltown, Indianola and Ottumwa schools have not released whether they'll stay in or continue the process of creating their own.
