Rain Wiping Out Drought Conditions

DES MOINES, IA (CBS 2/FOX 28) Meteorologists with the Department of Agriculture say near-record rainfall during the month of June has nearly wiped out drought conditions in the Midwest, including Iowa.

In Iowa, only two areas, including one in the southeast part of the state and one in the southwest part of the state, still have abnormally dry conditions.

This comes as many other parts of the state, including eastern Iowa, report flood conditions.

The rain is also helping the nations soybean crops.

72-percent of soybean crops are now being rated as in good to excellent conditions, making it the highest rating for soybeans during June and early July in two decades.
