Update on Fairfax Highway Damage
FAIRFAX, IA (CBS2/FOX28) -- Crews are working to repair the only major road through Fairfax. A large hole collapsed the road on one side of the bridge.
Tuesday, The Department of Transportation sent in an inspection team that reported the bridge itself sustained only minor damage. In the coming days, officials will work to get emergency repairs made to the road. A spokesperson for the DOT estimates once the repairs begin it will take approximately a month to complete.
The DOT advises travelers to utilize Highway 30 and Interstates 380 and 80 to bypass this area. Local traffic may be able to find alternate routes using local roads.
