Linn County Issues Health Assessment

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (CBS2/FOX28) -- The Linn County Public Health Department on Wednesday released its county-wide assessment of health.

It's the first time the comprehensive report has been created and its purpose is to provide an overview of health risks and conditions affecting those in the county.

Among the findings, cancer is the leading cause of death in the county and rates of obesity, diabetes and asthma are on the rise.  However, the report also said that life expectancy is higher in the county compared to elsewhere in the U.S.

The report also found a decline in teen pregnancies, as well as an improvement in outdoor air quality.
