Horse Shot in Johnson County

SWISHER, IA (CBS 2/FOX 28) -- For the second time in as many years, authorities in Johnson County are investigating a horse shooting.  It happened at 1146 Amana Road near Swisher.  The Johnson County Sheriff's Office says the owner of the horse first noticed the horse was injured last night.  Initially, they did not realize the horse had been shot because the wound had already begun to heal.
The horse was reportedly in a group but was the only one injured.  A local vet determined that the horse had been shot a few days ago.  The injuries were severe enough that the horse had to be euthanized Thursday.
Investigators say this incident is similar to one from January 2013.  In that case, a man was arrested in connection with the shooting.  But authorities say that man has since been moved out of the state and they have no reason to believe he is connected to the most recent incident.
If a suspect is found, they could face a felony charge of animal cruelty.  If you have any information they might help investigators, call the Johnson County Sheriff's Office at (319) 354-3729.
