CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (CBS 2/FOX 28) 65,000. Thats the number of kolaches volunteers in Cedar Rapids made for this weekends St. Ludmila Churchs annual Kolache Festival.
The baking of the pastries began on Thursday with the volunteers popping the baked goods in and out of ovens day and night.
All proceeds made during the festival go towards St. Ludmila as the church is trying to replace its roof.
Volunteers say while the kolaches are good, seeing the congregation come together and enjoy themselves, is even better.
Just to have everybody here is great, Elaine Samek said. You dont get to see everybody on a daily basis, so when youre together working, you get to know people a little better.
St. Ludmila will have another back sale on September 13th, but thats pre-order only. But as for this weekend, the church hoped to bring in anywhere between $40,000 to $50,000.
