Hiawatha Man Facing Federal Charges

HIAWATHA, IA (CBS 2/FOX 28) -- A Hiawatha man is now facing federal charges for a fire that damaged several homes back in November.
26-year-old Michael Lala was seen leaving the scene of the fire on Chickadee Lane on November 13th.
Court documents show that a special agent with the State Fire Marshal's Office located empty pseudoephedrine packaging and a AA battery casing.
Both are used to make meth.
The Hiawatha Police Department interviewed Lala and learned that he was in the process of cooking meth in the residence when his equipment tipped over and started the fire.
It destroyed three homes and damaged two others.
