Waterloo Man Dies From Beating Injuries

WATERLOO, IA (CBS 2/FOX 28) - The Waterloo man found beaten during the early morning hours of May 26th, has died.

69-year-old Dennis Washburn passed away Wednesday night at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, just two days after doctors removed a breathing tube because Washburn was able to breath on his own.

On May 26th, a passerby found Washburn in a grass field near the old Longfellow Elementary School. He would then be transported to the UIHC, but family members say he was never able to regain consciousness.

An autopsy to determine the exact cause of his fatal injuries is scheduled for late Thursday or early Friday.

So far, police have not made an arrest in the case and are asking anyone with information to contact them or Cedar Valley CrimeStoppers.
