Morning Accident Sends 1 to Hospital

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (CBS2/FOX28) - Authorities from multiple agencies, including the Linn County Sheriff's Department, were dispatched to a two-vehicle accident at Highway 30 and Williams Blvd at 7:27 AM Saturday morning.

Deputies arrived to find a vehicle driven by Mari Flores, 19, of Cedar Rapids in the ditch.  After investigating, Deputies determined that the vehicle driven by Flores was north-bound on Williams Blvd at the intersection of Dean Road, when it rear-ended a truck pulling a trailer that was turning left at Dean Road.

Flores left the scene of the accident and continued on Williams Blvd before going into the ditch at Williams Blvd and Highway 30.

A passenger in the vehicle driven by Flores was identified as April Jackson, 18, of Cedar Rapids.  She suffered minor non-life threatening injuries and was transported to St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids.

The driver of the truck was identified as Patrick Zamastil, 32, of Fairfax.  He was not injured.

Flores was taken to the Linn County Jail where she was charged with multiple offenses, including OWI.

The incident remains under investigation by the Linn County Sheriff's Office.
