Flooding Again Impacts Mercy Medical Center

CEDAR RAPIDS (CBS2/FOX28) - The emergency room at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids is once again re-open after being shut down Sunday night from flash flooding.

Staff spent Monday re-stocking supplies and cleaning up water.  Wet flooring was also removed earlier.

Staff also say they have learned how to remain calm and prepare for the worst after floods in 2008.

Patients were sent to St. Luke's Hospital, which saw its number of patients double on Monday.  The hospital called in extra staff to assist.

Other than longer wait times for patients, staff say that operations were running smoothly.

The emergency room at Mercy Medical Center re-opened at around 5:00 PM Monday afternoon.
