IDPH Warning About Flood Health Risks

DES MOINES, IA (CBS 2/FOX 28) With flooding a major concern all around Iowa, the Iowa Department of Public Health is warning about flood-related health concerns.

The department says Iowans should be aware of potential skin and tissue infections if dirty water should seep into open wounds. They also warn about ingesting contaminated food and water which can lead to intestinal problems.

They also say flood waters shouldnt increase the risk of tetanus, but wounds sustained during cleaning up could require tetanus shots.
