CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (CBS2/FOX28) Summer is known for crazy work schedules and endless kids activities. But, despite any lack of time and money, many corridor families say they will likely hit the road to take at least a few weekend trips.
On a warm Sunday afternoon when the weather is already feeling like summer, a number of people say stay-cations are great with a lot of things to do in Cedar Rapids, but they will still try to get everyone together to hit the road.
Olivia says her family will head east. She loves The Loop and everything else about the Windy City and has since she was a little kid, We love to go shopping and Ive always had an interest in the American Girl Dolls. That was when I was little, but Dicks Last Resort is a fun restaurant and were going there over Labor Day for my birthday.
On our Facebook page a lot of you shared favorite spots. Joshua writes, Saint Louis! The Arch is really neat. We went all the way to the top and took a few pictures of severe thunderstorms. We also went to the Saint Louis Zoo. Dawn says, Dodgeville, Wisconsin and Prairie Du Chien on the way home makes for a fun weekend. Jenny posts, Le Claire, Iowa is nice! Not as many shops as there used to be, but just a nice place to get away. Vicky says, Ive already gone to see my favorite band at Bratfest in Madison and there is at least one more free music event in Des Moines. Connie writes, Last weekend we took our three kids to the Niabi Zoo and then John Deere Pavilion in Moline. Cheap trip the kids loved. And Sally says, Dubuque and Galena are always fun.
Meantime back in NewBo, Lindsey says if she cant have an ocean beach, she at least needs the Lake Michigan shore in Chicago, I love the hustle and bustle, I love the lake, I love just being able to sit on a big rock and breathe in that air. You know we dont get that here, the Cedar River doesnt give us that.
