UPDATE: CR Trail to Close for Burn

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (CBS2/FOX28) - Officials in Cedar Rapids now say that a controlled burn that was to take place Tuesday, will be moved to Friday.

Wet weather Tuesday prompted the postponement of the burn along the Sac and Fox Greenway.  The Sac and Fox trail in the area will be closed from the Prairie Creek Fishery to Indian Creek Nature center from approximately 8:30 AM to 3:00 PM.

The burn will provide bare soil that can be planted into native prairie by ITC.

ITC has offered to convert the non-native cool season grass and brush under its transmission line easement to warm season native prairie.  In return, the Parks and Recreation and Fire Departments will conduct controlled burns to help establish and maintain the native ecosystem into the future.

The burn will be coordinated by the Cedar Rapids Parks and Recreation and Fire Departments.
