Bloomfield Wants Trial Delayed
IOWA CITY, IA (CBS2/FOX28) -- A man accused of killing his wife 17 years ago is asking for his trial to be delayed.
Attorneys for John Bloomfield have filed a motion asking for more time to prepare their case. They say there is still a lot of work to be done, and that Bloomfield's poor health has made it difficult to organize the case.
Bloomfield was diagnosed with cancer, and his attorneys say he might not have long to live. He's currently under house arrest at his home in Minnesota, awaiting trial, which is scheduled to begin July 8.
Bloomfield is accused of killing his wife in Iowa City back in 1997, then dumping her body in Illinois.
