Former ISU Scientist Faces Fraud Charges

AMES, IA (CBS2/FOX28) - Federal prosecutors are taking a rare step by charging an Iowa scientist with fraud.
They say former Iowa State University lab manager Dong-Pyou Han falsified records while he was doing research on an HIV vaccine.
Right now, prosecutors are working on a case of research misconduct by the scientist.
Han admitted to manipulating the data so that his team would get millions of dollars in research grants.
His data would have increased hopes that there was a major breakthrough in AIDS research.
Han resigned from the university last fall; there is no word on when he will face a judge.
