Friends Add to Years to Your Life

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (CBS2/FOX28) - If you're finding yourself sick more often or just feeling down, you may want to call up a friend. Researchers say there are health benefits from friendships that many people don't realize. Experts say people who have a good social support network are healthier overall. They cope with stress better and sometimes actually live longer. Researchers say it's better to have two or three really close friends than a bunch of casual acquaintances because the deeper the friendship, the more benefits. They also say maintaining those friendships throughout older age can give a person a better outlook on life. "It's just like that combined sense of force that gives you kind of that peaceful feeling that you're not alone, said Jackie Goetsch."The study says a person must value friends, nurture them, invest in them, and take the time to make them important.
