Changes for Older Voters in Johnson County

IOWA CITY, Iowa (CBS 2/Fox 28) -- Changes are being made for voters in Johnson County who live in assisted living facilities.

Residents in the independent living sections of assisted living facilities will now be able to request absentee ballots during elections.  Previously those residents were required to vote during pre-determined times when election officials were present to supervise.

Johnson County Auditor Travis Weipert made the change to policy after receiving complaints from people who claimed that the previous practice was inconvenient.

One specific assisted living facility also requested the change.  The name of the facility was not released.
