Federal Seizure After Drug Investigation

Cedar Rapids, IA (CBS 2/FOX 28) - Federal authorities are now looking to seize four homes in Iowa because they say they were bought with money made from selling illegal synthetic drugs.
investigators say, the homes - 3 in Des Moines and one in Cedar Rapids - are linked to a couple who owns Puff N' Stuff II, a tobacco shop in Cedar Rapids.
The store was searched in July 2013 but investigators hadn't done anything about it until now.
The couple has not been charged but they are under investigation.
This comes after three Iowa City businesses became part of a federal investigation for synthetic drugs.
Happy Daze, Zombies Tobacco, and Pipe Dreamz were all handed search warrants Wednesday morning.
Federal officials have been cracking down on synthetic drug use and sales since 2010, including the banning of some chemicals.
However, manufacturers have been able to manipulate those formulas to try to make certain drugs above the law.
