First Openly Gay Football Player Drafted
(CBS 2/FOX 28) - History has been made in the national football league.
The NFL has drafted the first openly gay player into the league this weekend.
In the 249th pick, the St. Louis rams drafted Michael Sam.
Sam is a defensive end from Missouri, who announced he was gay, during an interview with ESPN back in February.
On Saturday, he got the news by phone from the rams head coach who told him quote - "you're a ram, the wait is finally over."
Sam says it was an emotional moment.
The NBSs Jason Collins, who became the first openly gay athlete in any of the four major American sports when he came out last, tweeted his congratulations.
