Man Injured in Jackson County Crash

MILES, Iowa (CBS 2/Fox 28) -- The Jackson County Sheriff's Office is investigating a late night single vehicle accident which caused severe injuries.

Deputies were called to the 10,000 block of 495th Avenue in rural Miles at 2:33 AM.  An initial investigation revealed that a pickup truck driven by Steven Eldon Klemme, 59, of Miles, was traveling northbound on 495th Avenue when he lost control of the vehicle.  The vehicle continued off to the left side of the roadway into the ditch where it struck a tree.

Klemme was trapped in the vehicle and had to be extricated by mechanical means by a rescue squad.  He was transported to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City by helicopter.

The accident remains under investigation.
