Universities ID Disqualified Workers
IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) -- Nearly 100 former University of Iowa employees are disqualified from returning to work because of previous firings, but only a handful of ex-workers at the state's two other public universities face similar restrictions.
Spreadsheets released Tuesday by the Iowa Board of Regents show the three universities have far fewer disqualified former workers than Iowa's executive branch, which last month released a list of 975 who were in that status.
They also illustrate how universities and state agencies have inconsistent ways of tracking and excluding fired workers.
The University of Northern Iowa claims it can identify no ex-workers who are barred from being considered for jobs, while Iowa State University has identified only six terminated employees who can't come back to work. The University of Iowa released two lists totaling 95.
