NFL Draft Round 1 Goes To Jadeveon Clowney
(CBS 2/FOX 28) - It's a good day to be a Gamecock! The NFL draft got underway Thursday night and in the first round, former South Carolina defensive end Jadeveon Clowney was the number one pick - getting scooped up by the Houston Texans.
Cclowney, famous for his incredible speed and agility, blew spectators and coaches away at the NFL combine earlier this year.
But the other big story of the night was probably the number 22 pick - that's where Mr. Football landed. Johnny Manziel, the controversial former Heisman trophy winner's name wasn't called, and wasn't called...until the browns chose him as their second first-round pick...earning him the nickname in last night's headlines, as "Johnny Free Fall."
Even the NFLs official twitter account commented on Manziel's nationally televised three-hour wait, after the Dallas Cowboys became the 16th team to pass on Manziel, the league tweeted: "#sadmanziel???"
Other big picks of the night: the St. Louis Rams selected auburn offensive lineman Greg Robinson with the second overall pick, while the Jacksonville Jaguars took Central Florida quarterback Blake Bortles at number three.
The 2014 NFL draft will wrap up Saturday.
