Flood Protection Plans Moving Ahead

IOWA CITY, Iowa (CBS 2/Fox 28) -- Johnson County is pressing forward with plans to improve flood protection in Iowa City and Coralville.

The two cities have began construction on the Rocky Shore Drive Pump Station project.  The project will work with several other pump stations in the area to protect the road from water levels above the 2008 Flood.

If waters reach levels that high, a flood wall will close off Rocky Shore Drive.

The pump will help move rain water out from beyond the flood wall to prevent pooling.  The project is expected to be completed in December.
